[On the last night of the draft, Kurt took a major beating. For those who had been there, Kurt had become a flurry of teleportations, moving in and out of the enemies and becoming almost impossible to follow. He doesn't know how many he might have wounded or killed, but it had all been halted when he got stabbed with a near fatal wound. He doesn't even recall what happened after that. In fact, between that and the sickness, he only wakes up today in a bed in the medical center. When he tries to get up, he realizes that's not so much a good idea.

At the very least, he finds his journal next to him. So... he pulls that out to ask the inevitable question on his mind.]

I'm back in one piece. Sorry if I worried anyone, but I'm ahh... not even sure what happened.

[Rogue is in pain, exhausted, and without her coffee. She is also laying uncomfortably on her side, as a wing is in a splint.]

Are you done flirtin' yet?

[... wow, did he really not notice Rogue was in here with him this whole time? He somehow figured she was back home with Anne by now...]

For now, maybe. [He can already see that splint. Man... he thought he had it bad.]

Somebody's gotta give you a bell.

[So they won't get separated quite that easily. Or just to give off general warning signs that they're dealing with a flirt, you decide.]

... I'll pass. The bell definitely isn't my style.

[Well, at least she's feeling well enough to snark.]

[Sigh.]

Glad ta see ya made it in one piece. Next time, we waterproof the communicators.

Aha, yeah. Monsoons and batteries don't mix, do they?

[But his sentiment is much the same as hers. He'd been worried when he lost track of her, but the situation didn't allow for him to do anything about it.]

[She closes her eyes, sighs.]

Not so much.

[A quiet nod and then he sits up a little more so he can see her better.]

How's your wing?

Hurts like the dickens. [It's with an almost cheerful wryness.]

At least there's drugs here.

[... yeah, he can imagine. He winces just a bit as he thinks about it. A good blow to the wings is comparable to, well, a kick in the nads. Having a wing broken is just... he doesn't want to think about it.]

I guess magic isn't helping much, huh?

[She shakes her head.] The healing factor shoulda taken care of it, if anything would. Seems like the wings just... need ta heal normally.

Yeah... I didn't want to tell Mia, but her magic didn't seem to be doing anything to mine either.

[But his are just missing feathers and have cuts. Some deeper than others, but nothing bandages wouldn't fix.]

[She props herself up on one elbow.]

What happened to you?

One of those birdmen guys got me, right here. [He indicates the side of his stomach.]

Or maybe it was the other side... [Or both. Leon's special doll thing protected him from one, but not so much the other. Either way, he's trying to act cool about the fact he got stabbed and nearly killed. It's not entirely successful.]

[She winces sympathetically.] Ouch.

[ Disembowelment.

Messy.]

...sounds like a close one.

Yeah, I guess so... good thing for the magic, yeah?

[Maybe he'll have to learn him some.]

Yeah.

[After a long pause.]

Sounds like we both owe Mia one. She patched up my wing before we dragged you in here.

Yeah, I guess so... [A pause.] Heh, and you didn't want to have burgers with her.

That's not how I remember it.

[But she's really in too much pain to argue about this, so she shifts back a little, trying to find a comfortable position on her side.]

[Yeah.... so she's not really in the mood to argue about it, even over something meaningless. He settles back into his bed again, twitching a bit at the discomfort in his own wings.]

Hungry? There's some pizza leftover that Mikage brought up.

[Pain tends to make Rogue not hungry.]

Nah. You can finish it up.

[...] So. You okay?

[He's not sure if that's a good thing or not.]

I'm in better shape than you.

[Rogue scoffs.] That'll be the day.

[And she wasn't really talking about how he was doing physically, but it's not her way to push.]

[He ends up staring at the ceiling tiles. He kind of got the impression she meant more than physically. He's well enough to be able to sit up and talk, after all.

As for how he's doing otherwise...]

... I don't ever want to do that again, though.

Kurt... [She closes her eyes for a moment. She is so bad at this. What can she say? The feeling lessens with time until it sneaks out and jumps at you? You never really get out under the shadow of it?

That her only previous experience with deliberate killing before this was their mother only makes this more awkward.

They come back. But Kurt knows that.]
