Zweiundzwanzig - [Action/Voice]

[bamfing]

[When Kurt steps out of the tunnel today, he's relieved. It's kind of like being back home, if home was a place where you were at the mercy of scientists and bureaucrats and the subject of weird experiments. But it's got friends and family, so he's still relieved to be here. Not to mention having a sky over him again. It's kind of refreshing to actually be chilly! Although a little sore from two weeks of teleporting, he's content to make his way back home.

... where he'll find out Jubilee is gone. Not to mention that Melanie is still away. It's kind of a bummer on both count. But he keeps his chin high and remembers that he still has friends. Jubilee went back to the X-Men she belongs with, he's with the X-Men he belongs with, and he'll be ready the moment Melanie comes back.

After spending some time getting settled back into the X-House again, he goes out for the evening, looking for some fun to stimulate a Kurt who spent two weeks of fighting and boredom (and people staring at him like a freak). Good Spirits, Cloud Nine, and the Rec Center are all stops this evening for him. A successful mission completed deserves a little celebration, after all.

At some point, he pops open his journal to ask something he's been thinking about. From what he knows of Kotetsu and Pao-Lin's world, it almost seems to have 'mutants' like him. But unlike his world, they seem to have a better lot than mutants in his world do. After two weeks of being stared at like a freak, his own mutation is pretty heavy on his mind. Maybe other worlds are like this too?]

So a lot of us have powers, yeah? How many people were born with them... but only by accident? I don't mean like some kind of magical powers, but something totally random.

And... what do the people of your world think of that?

Can do. [ a strained smile. it barely touches her eyes. buffy fishes into the depths of the bar fridge before producing a pretty little frosted bottle of the stuff. not a can, strangely.

she pops its cap with her bare hands and proceeds to pour its contents into a shapely glass. ]

[ action ]

[bamfing]

[Welp. So he's stuck. Stuck with a soda he doesn't like. He accepts the glass, but isn't in a hurry to take a drink of it yet.]

Thanks. [He should. Say something else.] So... how's business?

[ action ]

[herotypical]

Not booming but definitely...in the up-swing. We always get more people in here in the week after a Shift. Or at least -- I'm assuming that's what that was.

[ action ]

[bamfing]

Shift? There was an experiment?

[herotypical]

[ how long had he been here? she can't...quite remember.

but: ] Maybe. Probably. No one can remember the weekend. Y'know how that usually happens back before Christmas?

[bamfing]

Oh... right, that. Glad I missed that. Any idea what it was about?

[herotypical]

Nah, just...[ wait. had she spoke to him at all on that weekend? maybe there was one final conversation to be had.

buffy swallows a sudden, surprising sob. ] J-just empty memories.

[bamfing]

[This is a little... different for Buffy. He can tell something's wrong. She's not being her usual snarky, demented, and possibly evil self.]

If that's empty memories, then what is this place? [Not like they'll remember Luceti as a whole either.]

[herotypical]

God, I hope not. [ she confesses. ] There's gotta be away to loop that hole.

[bamfing]

I haven't seen one yet. People say it's the same way in the other domes too.

[herotypical]

Yep. [ a sigh. ] But -- I can't just give up. It's...there are things I have to do. Things I won't know to do if I go back, now.

[ wow. that was...forthright. suddenly. she's thinking aloud, mostly. ]

[bamfing]

Like what? [Since, well, she's being so talkative.]

[herotypical]

Disasters. Bad deals. Deaths. Mostly the deaths, really.

[bamfing]

You just lost someone, yeah? [He's seen a lot of people gloomy when people leave. And the only deaths that matter here... are the ones belonging to those without a life to go back to.] I'm sorry.

[herotypical]

Bingo. [ another sigh. ] Got it in one. Which kinda means leaving this place sans-my-memories is mostly a non-option.

[bamfing]

[He nods at that. He kind of understands that feeling. Even if nothing quite so dire from home really comes to mind.]

I don't need to keep them. But... I'd still like to.

[herotypical]

[ she softened. ]

I know what you mean. There's...other stuff, too. And -- well? Who knows. I don't believe in no-win situations. [ a line she got from jim kirk but a line her life has certainly followed before here. ]

[bamfing]

Now you sound like Kirk. [It's what she gets for quoting her famous ex-boyfriend.]

[herotypical]

That'd be because I got it from Jim.

[bamfing]

[Blink blink.]

You met Kirk?

[herotypical]

Lived with him, actually. I mean -- you knew that Bones was here, right? S-sorry. Doctor McCoy. [ really, besides jim, she had been the only one truly allowed to use that nickname. and the fact that she did was mostly jim's fault. ]

Not the...old one. I have it on good authority that my Jim's way better looking.

[bamfing]

[Lived with. She lived with Kirk.]

... your Kirk? Were you dating him? [She was dating a younger William Shatner!? Suddenly Jack Sparrow doesn't seem so bad.]

[herotypical]

...Before he went home. Yeah. [ dude he was way hotter than shatner but she can never ever prove this. ] Six months or so.

[bamfing]

[Well Kirk's dad was Thor, so it goes without saying.]

... I met Scotty. I was able to transport the master transporter.

[herotypical]

Scotty lived back at the house, too. While he was here. And Spock. Uhura. We might've been a Starfleet hotel, at one point.
