[Kurt arrived none too gently in the middle of the night, lying in front of the fountain. His head was dizzy, but when he finally came to, he realized people were walking by him without so much as looking at him, despite his current state. He realized it was night time, but he was still stunned that they didn't seem to notice him. It was only when he waved his own hand in front of his face and realized he could barely see it that he became suspicious. After moving into the light, it was almost as if he was not stepping from the shadows, but front a literal blanket of darkness. It was almost as if the darkness made him completely invisible.

After making his way to the roof, he realized that everything around him was so much clearer. It wasn't quite like daylight, but he could see even into the dark alleyways with almost perfect clarity. Whatever the Malnosso did to him, it was weird. He makes his way home that night, not realizing an even bigger surprise is waiting for him.]

[The next day when Kurt goes out, he does so with a pair of sunglasses on, in order to cover his now glowing eyes. He avoids the Brigade meeting on purpose (and will be doing so for awhile), instead settling for the mundane task of a quick trip to the grocery store. He's trying to avoid being spotted, so most of his travel will be done by roof top. For the sake of his friends though, he does leave a voice post. He's still wearing his sunglasses for that.]

Hey everyone, it's Kurt. Looks like I'm back. I'm just ahhh... a little under the weather, yeah? I'll be back to normal in no time.

[At least, he hopes he will.]

[Vivi inhales a soft gasp at the sight. Not what she'd been expecting at all--in a way, it's a relief, since she'd been half-expecting to see one of his eyes injured or mutilated. She starts to move one hand toward his face, and stops it halfway, hesitant.]

Your eyes are-- can you still see all right? [It seems like a stupid question once she asks it--he's certainly not acting as if he's blind.]

[A nod as he starts to look away.]

I see better, actually. At night time, anyway. I can see everything almost as clear as the day.

That's not so bad, is it?

[Actually, it almost sounds handy, but she realizes he's sensitive about his appearance.]

Maybe if it worked that way without the glow.

[But. It doesn't. He glances away, still feeling ashamed.]

I'm sorry, Kurt-san. [She wants to tell him it doesn't really matter, but she knows it matters to him. Still, it pains her to see him turn away from her like that.]

...please don't look away. It doesn't bother me. [It's different, yes. It'll take some getting used to, but in the grand scheme of things, it's just a superficial change.]

[That prompts him to look back, with a weak smile.]

I know. People keep saying that.

[Vivi smiles back gently, trying to look encouraging.]

It's true. Your friends aren't going to care about something like this.

...besides, it should wear off after a while, should it?

... maybe. [No, he's not entirely sure about it. Not this time.] I kind of have reason to think maybe I'm supposed to be like this.

[Vivi's brow furrows a little.] What do you mean?

[...oh, wait.] Mutant stuff?

[He nods at that.] For some mutants, they keep changing even after discovering their powers. My friend Evan was able to create spikes from his skin. Eventually they started covering his whole body and turned into armor. Jean's telepathic powers once got too powerful for her to control. So all of this? It could be just like that.

[Which means it's permanent.]

[~~Kurt clearly needs his own copy of this pamphlet.~~]

[She nods as she listens. Honestly, Vivi's pretty shaky on the whole concept of mutants, but she thinks she gets it. Once he finishes, she reaches over and places a comforting hand on Kurt's shoulder.] It may not be.

[A slight pause before she continues.] And even if it is? Is it really so terrible?

A little? [He knows she's being nice, but it can't just be passed off like a little thing. This isn't a zit the night before the prom.] Wouldn't you feel the same if it happened to you?

...I'm not sure. Maybe.

[Honestly, no; she doesn't think she'd be taking it quite so hard. Oh, she might not be thrilled about it, but it's essentially just a cosmetic change. As hard as she tries to put herself in his shoes, it's not the same, and she knows it. In the grand scheme of things, an eye color doesn't really seem like such big deal to her. She's different from Kurt; she's never known what it means to have someone shrink away from her based simply on her appearance, and the fact that this new change may just compound that doesn't occur to her. She's so used to seeing Kurt as a friend that she doesn't give much thought to how different he looks from most people. She hangs her head a bit, feeling she's said the wrong thing.]

I'm sorry, Kurt-san. I don't mean to tell you how you should feel.

It's just...to me, it doesn't seem that awful. You may look a little different, but you're still you, and that's what's most important.

[That's really all he can ask for, isn't it? He nods with a small smile.]
