Okay, now that we're not all one big happy family anymore, other people have DVDs here, yeah? The SOS Brigade needs some help coming up with a rental store. Our own very Blockbuster or something. If we all put our collections together, we'll have a pretty good variety and be one step closer to staving off extreme boredom. So if people could just tell me what they've got, we can get a list together. [Feel free to just handwave what that list might be.]

... we also need a place to keep them and someone to run the place. Any ideas?

[That long, long overdue business aside, Kurt is now free to do his own thing. What might that include? Nothing too unusual. Hanging out on top of buildings, spontaneously BAMFing in front of pretty girls, chilling at school during lunch break or coming and going from the SOS Brigade meeting. If he gets bored enough he might just watch people walk around the plaza. Life in Luceti can get a bit dull when your life consists of just socializing and homework. Even if you do have DVDs back home. Too bad he's watched most of the stuff he has already and everything else is just not his kind of stuff.]

[He smirks instead and turns his attention to her.] Or maybe it's just better with the right company, yeah?

Company is a very important part of any social event. Even just a walk home.

[ she returns his smirk with a wide smile and turns towards the door. ]

[Well let him just open that door then.]

You finally get everything back in order at home?

[ what a gentleman! she dips her head gratefully as she steps outside. ]

The virtue in not having much means there isn't much to move. Everything is back where it should be.

Yeah, I guess that's lucky. [In it's own way, anyway. Kurt's glad he didn't have to move.] Did Mikage leave the room too messy?

Oh, it was quite fine. [ even if it had been too messy, she wouldn't complain. experiments -- they threw everyone for a loop. ] I'm mostly simply glad to be back at home. Although...it was nice to have a father for a while.

You actually liked that? [Just a little shocked here. Kurt wasn't that upset about it either, but he only got an additional brother out of one of his best friends here.]

Doctor Watson made a most commendable adoptive father; I should know -- I have had many.

Really? How many? [He's just had one! He can't imagine having multiples.]

Well...let me see.

[ she begins to count carefully on her fingers. ] I lived first with the Thomases. Then the Hammonds. After that, I was with a family in Halifax...

[ a moment of silence. ] I used to think they counted but now I wonder if they do. Does it count if you do not even call them father?

... it shouldn't. Family should mean way more than that.

[Man, he can't imagine being shuffled from one family to another like that.]

After Halifax, I was in the orphanage for a while -- until Mrs. Spencer came and picked me out for the Cuthberts. If there ever was a man who should have been my father by choice then Matthew was definitely him. Oh, Kurt. You would've liked him.

[ not...necessarily. anne's just convinced that matthew could arrive here and everything would be PERFECT. ]

Oh yeah, what was he like? [He's really going to have to try to remember all these names. This is, after all, her life story. Hm.]

[ her smile is most nostalgic. ]

Quiet, Kurt. He was always very quiet. But also dignified and humble -- and when he would talk it would be with the simplest pearls of wisdom. He knew how to have mischief, though you would never believe it from the look of him.

... he sounds like a really great guy. Do you still live with him, back home?

He passed away a year before I arrived here. [ it is sad but...but anne prefers to mope over inconsequential things. the genuinely tragic? she copes with. ] But I still live with Marilla. They were bother and sister.

... oh. I'm sorry. [He really... doesn't know what else to say. He's only recently accustomed to the idea of loss. And while Mystique wasn't someone easy to love, she was his mother.]

It's hard losing someone like that.

We...had a tough time of it -- but dwelling on it was never a solution. Marilla and I keep Green Gables house in the best of shape, in his memory. And she planted a slip of a little white rose bush by his grave. It's the little things that make up to a lot more of a difference, I think.

[ she gently pats the side of his arm. a signal not to be sad for her. ]

[It's kind of hard not to be. Though he's surprised she's able to deal with it so well. He brightens a bit and gives a nod. Okay, yeah. No wibble faces here.]

I guess that's a good way to look at it.

Besides -- [ her voice drops. ] It's always possible that he might come here too, someday.

[Given his train of thought is still on Mystique, he nearly winces when she says that.]

Ahhh... yeah, I guess she- I mean, he could.

Ahh... it's nothing, don't worry about it. [He directs his attention away from her, to the side of the path. It's something he won't just talk about easily.]

[ anne misinterprets completely. ]

Are you thinking about a sweet-heart of yours, Kurt?
