[On the last night of the draft, Kurt took a major beating. For those who had been there, Kurt had become a flurry of teleportations, moving in and out of the enemies and becoming almost impossible to follow. He doesn't know how many he might have wounded or killed, but it had all been halted when he got stabbed with a near fatal wound. He doesn't even recall what happened after that. In fact, between that and the sickness, he only wakes up today in a bed in the medical center. When he tries to get up, he realizes that's not so much a good idea.

At the very least, he finds his journal next to him. So... he pulls that out to ask the inevitable question on his mind.]

I'm back in one piece. Sorry if I worried anyone, but I'm ahh... not even sure what happened.

Well... what about it?

[There's a lot to say. He doesn't know where to start.]

Tell me about where you come from.

Well, for the past few years I was living in Bayville, yeah? At the Xavier Institute. It was a place for people like me, mutants, to learn to control our powers. It was run by the Professor. He's a good guy. He can read minds, but even though he's powerful enough to control your thoughts and actions, he uses his powers to help people. Everyone there does. It's what the X-Men are about.

[The 'X' being the reason for those weird uniforms he and Rogue were wearing during he draft.]

...I don't think I know what 'mutants' means, the way you are using it.

[Not even a flinch on the mind reading. Ivan's not able to control anyone's actions (though...he would play a lot of pranks if he could) but he doesn't use his ability for too much mischief either]

It means different. We have powers that normal humans don't. So... we're mutants, because of that. Usually people fear or hate us for it.

[Because frankly... what mutants can do is pretty scary stuff.]

...So in a way you're like Adepts, then.

Maybe. Are adepts considered freaks in your world?

[Because just having powers... it doesn't make it the same. Maybe on a sort of genetic level. But that doesn't mean much.]

['freaks'...is also an uncommon term for her.]

In some places, Adepts are...frowned upon. Viewed as cursed, or...in some ways, not quite human. Because non-Adepts can't see Psynergy...we just seem odd, and things happen around us without warning.

It was all right in Imil as a healer, and the people who live there accept that strange things happen. And there are towns where not being an Adept would make you stand out. ...But some places, and people, dislike us or want to use us, too.

[... so, different all around the world. It makes sense.]

... you're lucky to grow up where you did, then.

...You haven't found acceptance anywhere in your world, have you? For people who are similar.

It's not everyone. There's some people who aren't like that. [But there's less of them than everyone else.]

[it is obviously a sensitive subject for him. It won't help his recovery if he gets too agitated, either. Perhaps a slightly different line of conversation]

And those that aren't...are the ones you live with now?

The other people at the Institute are mutants like me. There's Rogue... and the others. [He won't go into their names right now. They're not here so... it's not important.]

Rogue too? I didn't know that.

Guess you didn't really see her in action, huh?

I did, actually. She has many abilities.

[He wonders if she actually knows why... well, not for him to say.]

Ahh, well yeah. She's a mutant and that's why she could do all that.

She is very strong. ...And she should be in a room here, but I haven't found her yet.

Wait... did something happen to her? Is she okay?

She broke a wing on the last night. I'm sure she'll recover just fine, as long as she rests.

Oh. [He winces sympathetically. Those wings... very sensitive.]

I should go look for her, then.

You should stay in bed and rest until you're well enough to look for her.

I can't. [He starts to push himself up out of his bed.]

She's my sister, I have to look out for her.

She is? [Mia totally thought they were a couple.

And no, don't think so, hopefully she's strong enough (or him weak enough) to keep him lying there]

I know you're worried. But what good will it do her if you exhaust yourself?

[Good thing she didn't say that out loud.]

At least I won't be worrying about her. [Though he's not struggling to get past her, even if he's not lying down anymore.]
