[Kurt is hanging out at the Battle Dome today. One nice thing about not having Wolverine around is that the programs he gets to pick aren't too hard and he gets to pick his own pace. But practice is still important, right? Besides, he gets to practice using the handy saber he picked up at the weapon shop. Sure, maybe it isn't practical to his typical training in subduing enemies with guns or mutant powers, but it's way more fun. But then, he'll probably never legitimately be fighting pirates on the high seas in epic sword duels. It's his guilty pleasure, okay? He likes to see imagine himself as a handsome, swashbuckling hero.

In between sessions, he decides to take a break, eat something from the vending machine and chat with people.]

People use the battle dome here a lot, right? Anyone have any favorite scenarios they like to fight in?

[sob, he'll never be a real X-Man now...]

[He takes the sword back and stares awkwardly at it.]

Ahh, well, I don't know about that. I probably wouldn't do so good if it was the real thing... [He hasn't turned the difficulty level up that high yet.]

That's what the simulations are for, are they not? Practice enough, and you'll get better.

Have you a teacher instructing you how to use that? [She cocks her head toward the weapon.]

[Well, she isn't lecturing him, so that's good. He gives a nod to the question.]

My friend Mikage has been showing me some moves. But I've been pretty good at improvising. [And with a satisfied grin.] I can even hold one with my tail.

[Mmm. Hopefully this Mikage knew what he was teaching Kurt. Oh, for Logan and his uncanny ability to wield whatever weapon he gets his hands on to be here now.]

Simply holding a sword is worlds away from wielding one, Kurt.

[bamfing]

I know that. But how many other people can wield three swords at once? [Not that he makes a habit out of this. That's way too much weight to carry around and extremely hard to coordinate.]

[Well okay, she cracks a smile at that.]

Not many, and I suspect that people who wield them with some skill number even less.

[She looks around the Dome again.] How similar does this place operate when compared to the Danger Room, Kurt?

[bamfing]

[He stands up and heads over to where the console is. He starts activating a program to show her how it works.]

Not exactly the same. It's actually way easier... [By virtue of the fact it has multiple modes of input and a very user friendly interface.] But it can even simulate the Danger Room. I did one of Logan's programs the first time I used it. [He lasted all of two minutes!]

[She follows and examines the controls herself. It does look a lot easier.]

I see... [She turns to Kurt, amused.] One of Logan's runs? Did you last very long?

[bamfing]

Well... longer than last time. [Which wasn't long at all.] But it's just as hard as the real one.

With your powers halved, I can only imagine how much more difficult it must be. [A wry smile tugs at her lips. Logan would like that. And say it'll build character or something.]

[bamfing]

Well, you know, for me, it's mostly just affected how far I can go. I can only go up to a mile now. [And it tires him out faster, but in the short term he hasn't noticed much of a change.]

[Storm frowns. She really doesn't like the idea of their mutations being tampered with like this.]

I've yet to find out how much I'm still capable of, myself. I was thinking of testing it out here.

[Oh! Now that's always interesting to watch.]

Hey, good idea! Are you going to do something in the Danger Room?

I might. [She gives Kurt a small smile, before glancing at the mainframe again, a little warily. Can't be too careful.]

I could set it up. I've done it a few times already.

[She makes a vague sound of assent, brushing her fingers along the controls.]

This facility was provided by the Malnosso, wasn't it Kurt?

[bamfing]

[He nods.]

Along with everything else, yeah. [The houses, the food, the water, the clothes...]

Do you think they keep records of all the sessions that the residents run?

[bamfing]

Maybe? I don't know. [He hadn't really thought of that.]

[Do they keep track of their training? what they're good at, what they're weak against? Storm is thinking, but she doesn't want to worry Kurt too much over unfounded concerns, so...]

Perhaps I'll ask around some, when I have the chance. [She'll give him a reassuring smile, even!]

[bamfing]

[Too late! Now he's thinking about how much he's given away.]

In the meantime, I think I'll see just how effective this power cap I've heard so much about is. Somewhere outdoors would be safer, I think. [It won't do if she accidentally short-circuits something in here.]

[bamfing]

Oh, maybe you could try the lake, yeah? It's nice and open and not too many people are usually around.

I'm not certain how long I'll be gone, so you and Kitty may start dinner without me. [She figured she should tell him in advance]

[Well, if she wants her alone time... but, well, he figures he can offer anyway.]

Are you sure? The Nightcrawler Express is totally open for business, you know.
