[With his first week of school in Luceti over, Kurt has taken advantage of the day off to make something a little special. A pizza, in fact. It's for a special little friend he made, so given how ridiculous this is, he's done his best to make the pizza when Kitty wasn't at home to call him out for it. Once it's done, he'll be appearing (quite literally) at building 4, teleporting to the sixth floor to knock on the door of Maes Hughes. Hopefully your daughter warned you that she ordered a pizza for lunch.

After putting up with Brigade shenanigans and generally hanging around the plaza area, he'll even make a voice post. Crazy, innit? This is mostly in response to seeing a certain person claiming to be a demon. Something that... struck him rather odd.]

When you think of a demon, what exactly do they look like in your mind? And [a hesitant pause here] what would you do if you saw one like that?

[LATER after being bombarded with how cool demons are, Kurt says something over the journals that will elicit less freaky responses:]

School wasn't so bad here. I can't believe we actually get homework though. What happens if we fail?

Depends what kind of demon we're talking about, really. Considering demons from some worlds are completely different from those in others.

Well, I really don't know. I'm not much of an expert. Not the human-looking kind, anyway.

What if they aren't attacking anyone?

The one that took shelter in my place, from the rain. He said his name was Calcifer and that he was a fire demon...and he looked it, too. But he was pretty polite and didn't burn anything, so I let him stay for a while.

... a polite demon, then. Well, if he wasn't causing trouble, I guess that's good. [Well, he already knew Terra was okay with how he looked, so this wasn't a big surprise.]

He...knew I was different, without me even transforming in front of him. Maybe he can do that for a lot of people. I don't know. I don't think he's malicious or that he would tell anyone, but...I just thought you should be aware.

I've seen so many variations of what people consider a 'demon' at this point, that I don't have a set image. If they aren't attacking me or anyone else, I wouldn't do anything.

[So writes the woman who lived with dragons and talking bombs and who knows what else....]

... I see. Maybe it's better I don't meet him. Even if he won't tell, it's better not to risk it with someone who actually is a demon.

Yeah? Well, that's good. In my world, anything that looks strange or unusual is feared and people will run away. Or sometimes, even attack.

Again, how "not human" are we talking?

And it's not just a matter of look, it's also a matter of how they act, too. There are some pretty peaceful monstrous looking demons, and there are demons that look harmless but will kill you without a second thought.

That can happen in my world, too, but I spent most of my life with Eidolons and they take all sorts of different shapes. I guess I'm too used to that for appearances of a different sort to bother me in any way.

Enough that they can't walk into a busy street without people freaking out. [So... not like Etna.]

I understand. He's not in my apartment anymore, though. I'm not sure if he found a place to stay or is roaming around.

I see. I guess you are lucky, that way. I've not met many people like that.

Where would a fire demon actually live anyway?

Demon is what people use to refer to those beings that are basically an embodiment of every evil and negative emotion, thought or act in the world. A demon doesn't have a specific form, it can be an animal or a person. Even if it's an entity of primary evil it doesn't have to look evil, in fact it probably looks the opposite in order to lure and trap good people.

That's the theory, at least. In reality in a place like this, "demon" is nothing but another race basically. Being evil or not doesn't matter here for that.

[Eheh, that first part leaves him a little unnerved. Even so...]

In my world, demons are said to be the angels who aspired to be greater than God, and so they turned away from Him, becoming wicked and evil instead. What most people believe them to look like is... fairly simple.

So like a Rifle Demon or something?

Then it ain't a "demon"!...unless they're plannin' ta, but that's the sorta thing you'd have ta wait an' see for.

[He pauses to look at that, blinking a bit before answering.]

Uh yeah, something like that.

So, basically they're only a demon if they're doing something wrong.

That theory also exists in my world, however it's nothing but what I said, only with prettier wording. The existence of a God can't be proved in my world, thus the nature of that God can't be proved either, it can just be assumed. Because people turn to the idea of a God in order to find comfort, God is nothing but the embodiment of every good and positive emotion in the world. Eternal bliss, eternal love, eternal happiness, eternal patience, eternal kindness.

However the idea of such a being existing and giving birth to humans leaves to debate why people aren't like that and where does evil and negativity come from. Thus people create the figure of a demon. The idea of them being formerly angels is just to convince themselves that it's natural that good people turn to be bad people, and to support the idea that the origin of everything was God, the pure and good being, instead of the other way around or admitting a balance between both sides.

[A pause.]

People tend to be fairly simple when they think about something they want to use as a scapegoat.
