Some permission-type things! Mainly two things go here.
1) Kurt is from a modern world and he himself is a fairly typical teenager in what he watches TV and plays video games. He is not that much of a geek, though, so his knowledge is limited. He's also from the year 2003, so anything after that will be lost on him. Primarily he will know things that were popular with teenager in the late nineties up to 2003. He'll know the cartoons he grew up with as a kid (think Ninja Turtles, Disney fare, and so on), as well as stuff that are just popular cultural things (Star Trek, Star Wars, Batman, etc). He's also known to play video games, but typically limited to popular action games and less so RPGs (unless you're called Pokemon). As far as anime and manga goes, he's not likely to know anything that's less popular than Dragonball Z or Sailor Moon and would only be aware of them in passing.
non tl;dr version - examples of things he'd know about:
Television: Star Trek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Movies: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, The Matrix
Video Games: Pokemon, Halo, Super Mario Bros.
If you're not sure, go ahead and comment here with whether or not Kurt can fourth wall your character.
2) Kurt typically wears a watch that creates a holographic image over him. This is ONLY an illusion. Although it hides his tail, it does in fact still exist. Likewise, if one was to shake his hand, they'd note that he has three fingers instead of five. If someone was to touch his cheek, they'd feel fur rather than bare skin. People may have the ability to see beyond such illusions or simply tell by other senses (such as a heightened sense of smell regarding his fuzzy nature). So please note on here if they do!
That's it! Thanks for helping out if you do reply!
((As a final note, people are allowed to 4th wall Kurt in turn, though he's likely only going to be recognizable to people when he's not using the holo-watch. Please try to refrain from spoiling him on details about his life, though. Especially regarding aspects of his comic counterpart, his father, in particular.))
